Our Annual Conference and Expo was held in French Lick, Indiana on September 5-7. We had a wonderful time at our receptions, dinner, golfing, skeet shooting, the casino, and the awards ceremony. In our educational seminars, we all learned from Sergeant Jason Morris that we need to be more aware of all the different forms of drugs being used, the way the are being used, and how they are being concealed. His presentation was very eye-opening. Mr. Rob Hickey with Kopka, Pinkus, Dolin (KPD) shared his insight on trial practice techniques and how plaintiff attorneys are going after companies and their safety practices rather than individual drivers. He also, shared with us a typical line of questioning that you could expect and how a good plaintiff’s attorney will use your own words against you. He also emphasized that telling the truth is absolutely required. Jeremy Reymer with DriverReach addressed one of the major issues in our industry, driver recruitment. He focused on the application process, early human interaction, and the use of simple but modern technology to support these processes. Mark Cubine with Mcleod Software provided examples on how carriers are using their ELD information and in-cab communication systems to improve their operations. Chirag Shah with WABCO presented a summary of collision mitigation If you were unable to make it this year, I strongly encourage you to do so in 2020. I hope this summary will raise your level of interest.
